New York, New York

Our apartment in New York is very comfortable and modern, just one house back from the Hudson River Parkway with water views from the terrace.

We woke to rain for our 1st full day so we decided to change our plans to indoor visits.

We walked to the Metro and caught the subway to Midtown and visited St Patrick's Cathedral, a beautiful church, undergoing major renovation.  From here we walked down 5th Ave to MoMA, the museum of modern art.  Due to the rain, it was very busy but we still enjoyed the outstanding collection.

From here we walked to Rockefeller Centre, past Radio City Musical Hall, past several theatres.  We thought about the Waldorf Astoria for lunch but settled for a small cafĂ© in the Rockefeller Centre.

Did some window shopping along 5th Ave - no prices on anything so we just looked in the window at Cartier and some of the designer dress and shoe shops.

It was still raining but we walked to Times Square, also under renovation and enjoyed looking at the colourful neon signage. Also visited the small Times Square Museum which included a display of outfits worn in several Broadway Musicals.

Perhaps our favourite store we visited was Toys R Us which included a full size ferris wheel cutting through its 3 storeys, incredible displays and toy demonstrations.

On the way home, we picked up a bottle of Mumm Napa Valley, chilled ready for drinking.  You can imagine what we did next...but first we had several cups of tea.

It's like you're in a movie seeing all these sights. Must be a bit weird, familiar (from books, movies and TV) and yet alien.

Can you take Harrison next time, he likes the sound of that Toys R Us store, and there's no way I'm taking him there, haha!

I've always wanted to go to that shop and play on the piano like Tom Hanks in Big.
