Train to Denali

Our trip from Anchorage to Denali on the McKinley explorer was on a train similar to the Rocky Mountaineer. The scenery was very beautiful and the train luxurious but at the end of the day we felt it had been a little less than we were expecting.
We saw wonderful scenes of forests, mountains and fast flowing rivers and distant glaciers We were surprised at the number of small towns that we passed.

Our only major wildlife sighting was a moose as it hurried away. We were in the dining car at the time and almost missed it. We did see Trumpeter Geese, ducks and Bald Eagles.

We did pass the town that Sarah Palin lived in and were told by the two ladies we sat with in the dining car that they were sad she was not running for President! The Grandmother was a Moose hunter!!

We did meet some very nice people and are enjoying this little section of the trip. The weather had closed in this afternoon by the time we reached Denali but we ventured out of the complex to dine at the Prospectors Pizzeria and Alehouse. It is the restaurant for a small craft beer called The 49th State Brewing Company. A good night followed

Rob's turn for a silly photo! We didn't buy it!
We have made it to Denali

They make everything bigger up north, even the pizza eh!
I can see that's one place we'll be going to if we ever go to Alaska - craft brewery AND crab stuffed jalapenos (meanwhile I see even in the wilds of Alaska you can't escape a Kiwi sav blanc!).

Hahaha I did have a good old chuckle at the thought of Sarah Palin for President. What interesting diner conversation you must have had with them.

Looks so nice. I loved Alaska. Didn't see a bear like that though. Keep it coming. Keep having fun xo
