Cusco: The Navel of the Earth

Cusco, the capital city of the Incas was called, the "Navel of the Earth" It was the capital of one of the great civilizations. It  fell to just a small party of 168 Spanish on horseback. They had never seen horses!
Much of the Inca empire was destroyed but in some ways it continues to today and religion is a blend of Inca and Catholicism. More about this later!

Our hotel is the Palacio Del Inka a member of Prestige Small Hotels group

Gail in one of the foyers

Great table for Christmas Lunch! Now on to the city.

After settling in we went to the main square and after a look around we had lunch. We could have posted a photo blog of photos from our table!

The lunch was about the view not the food but it was ok!

                                                    Looking down to the Cathedral

It was a wonderful view over the square

The main fountain is one of the oldest structures in the city

Gail framed along with the Cathedral

We made several more visits around the town visiting markets, graveyards, the Cathedral and a few other churches and viewpoints.

At the entry to the San Pedro Mercado

Rob at the stall that sold religious offerings and whips. An interesting combination!
