Iquitos

Iquitos is the largest city in the Peruvian Amazon. It has industry and is a great contrast to the forested areas that we saw on the Queen Violetta. It has many beautiful buildings from the Spanish era but many are in disrepair.

                                                    The main square of Iquitos

                                                                        The old town

This is our hotel in Iquitos the 'Casa Morey'. It was a grand home built by a Rubber Barron and restored to its former glory. Wonderful setting and rooms.

The best thing to do in Iquitos

The second best thing to do in Iquitos! As you can see it was hot hot, hot.

One of the old river ships that is now a museum.

Local housing. Many of these homes are designed to float up with the seasonal changes in river height as the range is extreme.

Our departure point for our next leg of our journey up to an Amazon lodge.
