A warm welcome in Hamburg

We had a long train trip to reach Hamburg. It was an easy trip with a paper bag lunch along the way! Washed down with a glass of Rose of course!
Our hotel is 500M from Hamburg Dammtor Train Station so it was another easy transfer.

We went for a walk before joining friends for dinner. It was not far down to the city centre with lots of interesting sights along the way.

A "broken swastika" sculpture that we passed along the way. Very symbolic!

                                                     View from near Stephans Platz.

We walked around the side of Binnenalster or the smaller section of Lake Alster. The city has this huge lake that you can take boat trips or sail on.

Gail at Jungfern Stieg. Great views on all sides.

From here we caught a bus that took about 20 minutes to near where our friend Charlotte lives. We had a great time catching up with a fabulous Spanish tapas meal.

Walking down the path to the restaurant a family of swans had taken up residence.

A great night out with Charlotte and Elizabeth.

Later we drove around Hamburg by night visiting the "red light" district, the carnival and the very interesting area around the docks.

We have had a wonderful start to our few days in Hamburg.

Based on the number of beers being consumed I'm wondering if a paper bag lunch involves beer in a paper bag in the park.
